The month of May has come in gone in Show Land, and the Chicago Cubs followed up April with a 15-12 month, to start June with a 31-24 record, 2 games in back of the first place St Louis Cardinals.(It’s the damn Jorts)
Rookie OF Jorge Soler continued his hot start of the season by increasing his team leading HR Total to 16 including 2, one being a walk-off winner in the May Finale against the Diamondbacks.(TWTW of 9!!!)
Soler (.333/.355/.656(OPS of 1.101, I think that’s good) also increased his team leading RBI total to 37.
The month of May was also Anthony Rizzo(.351/.387/.597) made his return for injury and immediately rattled off a 16(and counting) game hit streak. While Starlin Castro continues his overall great play as he leads the National League in hits(.345/.379/.489).
Taking over for Javier Baez at 3rd this month was Ian Stewart who went on a Unreal(see it’s a video game) tear hitting over .400 in 3 weeks before he went down with a long term injury. Christian Villanueva was called up and continued Stewart’s hot streak, hitting .500 his first week.
On the Pitcher’s mound, the story is a bit different as the unit has struggled as a whole. With Rookie Dillon Maples being the only bright spot, improving his record to 7-2 on the season. Maples also had the highlight of the month by going 7.2 innings of No-Hit Ball.
Not all is well, as Rookie SP Pierce Johnson joined Javier Baez as this months rookie to be sent down to Iowa. With an ERA hovering around 6, it was time to bring up super top Prospect Arodys Vizcaino to the Majors
And there is a Trade to announce, just approved by Major League Baseball, the Cubs have sent 2B Darwin Barney to Washington for 3B prospect Anthony Rendon. Rendon will battle with Villanueva for playing at 3B.
What to Watch For
- Trade Winds are blowing
- Which Rookie is next to Falter
- Oh crap, I still have to do two more of these today?!?!?!!?
